Companion Caregiver (Live‑in) for Highly Independent 90‑year‑old
Cristina’s goals (Clients Daughter)
- Keep her mom safe at home as long as possible.
- Preserve their mother–daughter relationship.
- Have reliable backup to travel and live without constant worry.
Reality to know
- Client is highly selective. With mismatched caregivers she may feel burdened, become combative, leave the house, and demand they be fired.
- A few caregivers have worked work very well: Mom accepts them as friends/companions; Cristina feels real relief.
Current setup
- One excellent live‑in week covered.
- If no second well‑matched caregiver is found by around March, memory care (Cadence) may be considered.

- Warm, self‑assured presence; respectful of her home; not bossy or overbearing.
- Proactive and observant; take initiative (tidy kitchen, wipe stove, tend plants) without a checklist; avoid long silences.
- Gentle leader who plans the day while making it feel like her choice; builds a light routine (morning coffee/news/meds; crossword; lunch; walk; needlepoint; prep dinner together).
- Engaging cook who involves her (e.g., chopping veggies, setting the table); prepares simple, fresh meals she enjoys (Italian flavors) and keeps mealtime conversational.
- Grounding skills when disoriented (calm house walk, family photos, reassurance).
- Emotionally steady with pushback; uses humor and distraction; doesn’t take things personally or “try too hard.”
