Live-In Caregiver/Direct Support Professional job summary

Amber Lantern operates residential supervised living facilities for people who are recovering from mental health conditions. Direct Support Professionals help Amber Lantern’s clients with daily activities, plan enrichment outings and administer medication.
This is a Live-In position with free private room, three meals per day, and utilities included (a benefit valued at over $1,200 per month) making it an excellent opportunity to grow your savings or pay off debt while daily life expenses are covered.
Compensation is hourly with ample opportunities for overtime pay at time and a half. Live-in DSPs typically work 72 to 90 hours per week. With time and a half hours included monthly pay ranges from $3,200 to $4,000. Hourly rates start at $8.50 for regular time and $12.75 for over time with opportunities for advancement based on experience and ability to manage a supervised living home independently.
Responsibilities
- Provide our residents with assistance as they accomplish daily tasks, including reminders for personal hygiene, dressing and grooming to train residents in daily self-care practices
- Provide our residents with assistance with meal preparation
- Provide our residents with assistance in scheduling medical appointments and transportation
- Document, report, and review residents’ daily progress, needs, medical issues, and behaviors in accordance with company policy.
- Communicate problems, concerns or issues to house manager as needed
- Oversee that all residents take their medication as directed by their health care providers
- Build rapport with residents by establishing personal connections and showing interest in their lives
- Plan fun activities and accompany residents on community outings
- Respond to any safety or medical issues and document them properly
- Converse with residents to reinforce positive behaviors and to promote social interaction
Requirements
- High school diploma/GED required
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Food Handlers Permit (or willingness to obtain one) required
- Ability to pass a criminal background check
- Current and valid driver’s license and minimum liability insurance required
- Ability to calmly and repetitively model appropriate behavior in difficult or challenging situations required
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with both residents and team
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in written and oral correspondence
- Experience working in a residential care facility preferred
- Experience working with individuals diagnosed with serious mental illness preferred
- Previous experience caring for children or adults preferred.
Physical requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; sit; walk; use hands to finger; handle; reach with arms and hands; stoop; kneel; crouch; crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. Must be able to lift and/or move at least 50 pounds in order to assist in life skills. Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to occasionally loud.
